The Sunflower Palliative Care Podcast X Canada’s Pediatric Palliative Care Alliance

Equity in Pediatric Palliative Care: Cultural humility and care considerations for Indigenous children, families and communities

We’re proud to share a 5-part podcast series created in collaboration with Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration and The Sunflower: Palliative Care Podcast.

This series brings together pediatric palliative care providers and voices from equity-deserving communities to explore how care is delivered, where it falls short, and how it can be reimagined. Through honest conversations and lived experience, each episode offers critical reflections on the current system and meaningful insights into how pediatric palliative care can become more inclusive, culturally safe, and responsive to the needs of all families.

Join us in listening, learning, and working toward a more equitable future in care.

Join host Camara van Breemen in conversation with nurse, counsellor and healthcare administrator Susan Poitras. Susan has worked in pediatric palliative care with patients and families as a Registered Nurse, Child Psychotherapist and Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia. She has dedicated her career to the welfare of families, caregivers, and their children, grounded in ethical principles, fostering culturally safe spaces, and person- and family-centered, best-practice quality care. Susan is a BC Metis Citizen – with mixed Cree and European ancestry. Her experiences as a second-generation person working within the healthcare system has shaped her path and fueled her desire to contribute to equitable health care for Indigenous people.
